This brief idea emerged after spending some time over the holidays amongst various friends involved in the DIY and lo-fi scenes in the North East. It's a scene that's quite rich culturally and has a very positive community. After a conversation with one of the bandmembers, we both decided that it would be a good idea to produce a small publication that in someway documents the scene, it's influences, the shows, the music. This can then be delivered for free, both as a memento to people involved as to what they're part of, but also as an educational tool (without being preachy) for those who are getting into the scene. The aim is to have this work as a live brief, with this being the first edition of what could be an ongoing publication. It's also significant to explore promotional materials that could go with the magazine. As a brief, it will involve identity, publication and promotional material, but also a substantial amount of primary research in terms of band interviews, CD reviews etc. in order to create the publication.
